How to Create an ADHD Bedroom Cleaning Checklist

If you have ADHD, you know that one of the most challenging things can be keeping your bedroom clean. It’s easy for things to get out of control; before you know it, your bedroom is a disaster zone. The key to keeping your room clean is to have a routine and a plan. One of the best ways to do this is to create a cleaning checklist. Having a list of tasks to complete will help you stay focused and on track. It will also help you to avoid feeling overwhelmed by the cleaning process.

Here are some tips for creating an ADHD bedroom cleaning routine with a checklist. I will also provide you with a printable cleaning checklist and a blank copy to create your own that you can use to help keep your bedroom clean and tidy.

Benefits of a checklist

An ADHD bedroom cleaning checklist can help you break down the cleaning process into smaller, more manageable tasks. This can be especially helpful if you tend to get overwhelmed by messes. In addition, having a list of specific things to do can help you stay focused and on track.

ADHD bedroom cleaning checklists can also help you create a routine for cleaning. For example, you may decide to clean your room every Sunday morning. Regular cleaning schedules can help you stay on top of the mess and prevent your room from getting too out of control. It can also be motivating to see all your progress as you check items off the list.

Another benefit of checklists, especially with ADHD, is you can track how often things are getting done. For example, the time blindness that accompanies ADHD will have you thinking you vacuumed last weekend when in reality, it has potentially been a month or two since it last happened.

Daily

Daily tasks should be quick and easy to do each day to try and keep your room from getting too overwhelming. Some examples of this would be:

  • Make your bed
  • Pick up anything on the floor
  • Put dirty clothes in the hamper
  • Hang up items you will wear again

One tool that can help make your bed daily is Beddy’s Beds. Beddy’s are all-in-one zippered bedding in high-quality cotton or super soft minky material. I bought one for my daughter a few years back because she had a daybed, and Beddy’s seemed like the best choice. You get out of bed in the morning and zip it up. Beddy’s are a little more investment but well worth the convenience. They have tons of cute and stylish options.

Weekly

Weekly tasks can be done less frequently but should still be done regularly to keep your space clean and chaos-free. These would be:

  • Empty garbage
  • Change sheets
  • Vacuum
  • Dust/wipe down surfaces

To make changing your sheets easier, ensure you have at least two sets of sheets on hand. Then, when you take your sheets off to wash, immediately throw on the clean set. This way, you have at least a week to wash your other set but will have your bed ready to go at bedtime. I love these sheets on Amazon.

Monthly

Monthly tasks should be the ones that are least necessary to maintain the day-to-day peacefulness of your room, but things that should still be done occasionally to keep your room clean. Such as:

  • Dust vents and fixtures
  • Wash duvet and blankets
  • Organize drawers

When I say organize drawers, I don’t mean a huge undertaking. If things have gotten out of place or something was shoved in a drawer that doesn’t belong there, I think it’s good to go through and re-tidy those drawers occasionally. For example, my tank tops are folded in my drawers and arranged by color. Sometimes, those piles blend together, but it only takes a minute to put them back where they should be.
